to by film historian David Thomson as a "regal, intelligent but enigmatic
beauty," Anouk Aimée's extraordinary career began in her teens in
Henri Calef's "LA MAISON SOUS LA MER" (in which she was billed simply
as Anouk) and the legendary Marcel Carne's unfinished "LA FLEUR DE
L'AGE," (both in 1947). An International Movie Star since receiving an Academy Award Nomination and Golden Globe Award for her starring role in Claude Lelouch's worldwide romantic hit, "A MAN AND A WOMAN" (1966), Ms. Aimée was already acclaimed in Europe for her two spectacular performances in Federico Fellini films-the jaded nymphomaniac in "LA DOLCE VITA" (1960) and Marcello Mastroianni's neglected wife in "8 1/2" (1963). Various other films of note include Harold French's "THE PARIS EXPRESS" (1953); Georges Franju's "HEAD AGAINST THE WALL" (1958); Jacques Demy's "LOLA" (1961), for which she was nominated by the British Academy; George Cukor's"JUSTINE" (1969); Sidney Lumet's "THE APPOINTMENT" (1970); Marco Bellocchio's "SALTO NEL VUOTO" (1979), for which she won Best Actress at the 1980 Cannes Film Festival; Bernardo Bertolucci's "TRAGEDY OF A RIDICULOUS MAN" (1981); Jerzy Skolimowski's "SUCCESS IS THE BEST REVENGE" (1984); Claude Lelouch's sequel "A MAN AND A WOMAN 20 YEARS LATER" (1986); and Philip Borsos's "DR. BETHUNE" (1990). Ms. Aimée has been married three times: to Nikos Papatakis, with whom she has a daughter; to Pierre Barouh in the 1960's; and to Albert Finney in the 1970's. She lives in Paris. She is currently co-staring with Gerard Depardieu and John Malkovich in Depardieu's French TV production of "NAPOLEON." |
